Changes at the top for UK Commission for Employment and Skills
Chris Humphries CBE, the Chief Executive of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills will retire at the end of the year, it was announced today. He will be succeeded by Michael Davis. Read more.

In a recent press article about government cuts, IIP UK was included in a list of abolished ‘quangos’. In fact, ownership of Investors in People was transferred to the UK Commission for Employment and Skills in April this year in a move that has strengthened the position of Investors in People and ensured its continued development and support. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) today launched Skills for Sustainable Growth, a consultation document on the Government’s future strategy for skills and calls on employers, individuals, colleges and training organisations to have their say.
Investors in People is referred to within the paper and recognised for it's role over many years in promoting the link between training and bottom line performance. The government is seeking ideas and views on ways businesses can be encouraged to increase the UK's leadership and management capability to create better run and more highly performing businesses; and to use skills as a real driver of productivity and business improvement.

Making every £ count - Investors in People helps employers get the most from limited learning and development budgets - April 2010
Over half (52%) of UK organisations have reduced their learning and development budgets according to a recent survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). And with only one in 10 employers (11%) expecting training spend to increase in the year to come, the focus is on managing costs more efficiently. The main changes over the last year include a move to making sure training budgets are more business focused (38%) and a reduction in external suppliers and a move to in-house training (31%).
